Exterior and interior safety screens are available for permanent or temporary protection.

Most common applications for exterior safety screens:

0.19" gage 4" x 4" welded wire mesh
Adjustment range of 4" in width for easy installation
Able to be installed with no penetration of skylight

Safety Considerations:

Skylights pose an inherent risk of injury or death from fall throughs, and the safety of others is of the utmost importance to VELUX. VELUX recommends that the customer and building owner or manager use additional protection with the skylight, such as an exterior or interior safety cage, to enhance long-term safety.

Internal Safety Screens

Internal safety screens provide a cost-effective means to protect skylight openings, both during construction and long after construction is complete.

Interior Safety Screens (CRGA ICD)

The interior Safety Screens (CRGA ICD) with 3/16" steel mesh spaced at 6" on center provides a cost effective means of protecting the skylight opening during construction, and long after construction is complete.

Interior Security Bars (CRGA BB)

Interior Security Bars (CRGA BB) has ½" diameter steel bars welded 8" on center offer the most security and protection available. In addition, this system provides the means of protecting the skylight opening during construction and long after construction is complete.
External Safety Screens

External safety screens provide OSHA fall protection for flat roof, domed commercial skylights without damaging your skylight.

Exterior Safety Screen (CAEW/CAEB)

Depending on the model, exterior screens have a 0.19"- 0.22" gage welded galvanized steel mesh spaced at 4" on center and fit any new or existing unit, vault skylight, or shrink out smoke vent. They are lightweight, easy to install, either permanently over units or as temporary protection* on construction sites.
Built-in Fall Protection

Prefabricated curbs come with an impact tested security screen in a grid pattern using 3/16" cold-rolled galvanized steel rod.

Insulated Steel Curb (CCA3)

The insulated steel curb is 1½" thick factory-insulated, double-wall, steel curb with 2" × 2" wooden nailer and 3/16” cold-rolled galvanized steel safety screens.

Field Insulated Steel Curb (CCA6)

The field insulated steel curb is 1½" thick ¾" fi eld-insulated, single-wall, steel curb with 2" × 2" pressure-treated nailer and 3/16" cold-rolled galvanized steel safety screens.
